Summer heat, especially in large cities, can be very painful. Children, seniors, pregnant women and people who practice outdoor sports are particularly vulnerable to high temperatures. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to problems such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, dehydration and cramps. Fortunately, we have the tools to make life in the city during the heatwaves not so burdensome.
Green areas are the answer to the problem of heat
It has long been known that the greater the number of green areas in cities, the better for the microclimate. Plants, especially trees, not only lower the temperature, but also absorb carbon dioxide, and by releasing oxygen, they purify and increase the humidity of the air. They provide shade, natural bird habitats, reduce wind speed and create natural acoustic screens.
“Climate Garden” technology for greening cities
GreenEvo is a unique program supporting the idea of creating green areas in cities. One of its elements is the “Climate Garden” developed by the Institute of New Technologies of Environmental Engineering in Nowe Żabno.
One technology – seven gardens
“Climate Garden” consists of as many as seven interconnected gardens that complement each other to create a rich green zone.
Rain garden
It is an underground tank intended for storing rainwater, in which an automatic irrigation system for green areas and other elements of the “climate garden” is also installed.
Retention garden
This so-called wetland bed. It is here that excess rainwater flows from which organic pollutants, nitrogen compounds and heavy metals are removed before being discharged into the ground.
Vertical garden
Green walls are a living ecosystem that improves air quality in the immediate vicinity. Its task is, among others, to reduce dust suspended in the air, absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen and regulate humidity. What’s more, it is a perfect shelter for local fauna, i.e. birds and insects.
Bio-waste garden
It’s a composter with an easy emptying system. It is here where liquid hummus is produced, serving as a natural fertilizer, which is used by other gardens. Thanks to it, there is no need to artificially fertilize other subsystems, and this makes “Climate Garden” fully self-sufficient.
Biodiversity garden
Creates vegetation that can be used by e.g. Bee. We will find here a flower meadow, houses for insects, hotels for hedgehogs, as well as drinking fountains. There is a wealth of fauna and flora here.
Anti-stress/educational garden
It is a space with wooden benches and walls that can be used for recreation as well as for conducting educational activities. This part of the “Climate Garden” is illuminated by lamps powered by photovoltaic panels, i.e. an environmentally friendly source of energy.
Biofood garden
To a large extent, it uses the rainwater and bio-waste subsystem. Thanks to this, fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, as well as fragrant plants successfully grow on perfectly irrigated and fertilized soils.

Green that brings relief
The introduction of technologies such as “Climate Garden” improves the living comfort of city dwellers, animals, insects and plants. We encourage, especially representatives of local organizations and local governments, to familiarize themselves with and implement this environmentally friendly solution.
