For the owners of small hydropower plants and other investors who plan to build or modernise small hydropower plants, we offer a custom designed Archimedes’ screw. The exceptional nature of this solution primarily results from the screw design, i.e. its appropriately selected diameter, pitch and inclination angle. This ensures the optimum energy efficiency of this unit.
The Archimedes’ screw from Enerko Energy Sp. z o.o. is dedicated for micro- and small hydropower plants. It can be applied with very small water heads. Its features, such as an open structure, large water-filled work spaces, an open non-pressure system, a low turbulence level or a slow rotation speed, ensure that this technology is quiet and environment-friendly. As a result, it can be used on protected nature sites, since it meets the rigorous environmental criteria. The screw design reduces the costs related to the preparation of the foundation for the hydropower unit in the course of assembly works and to the later operation.
Benefits of Technology:
- A customised solution for rivers with variable flows and low heads.
- Application on protected nature sites, including rivers inhabited by protected fish species.
- Easy and cheap to operate.
- High energy efficiency of the use of a watercourse.
The Archimedes’ screw was implemented in Poland e.g. at Bieleckie Młyny, where the investment project was carried out on the Natura 2000 site of the Black Nida River Valley. The parameters of the turbine and the hydropower generating potential of the river enabled the production of about 170,000 kWh of electricity in a year, making it possible to supply more than 100 households. In addition, the investment project enabled the regulation of the local water regimes, reducing the flood risks in case of high river water levels.
